Five Dordt Tracksters Named NAIA Scholar Athletes

The NAIA Scholar Athlete list for track and field has been released and five Dordt College track team members have earned the honor. The list includes Kate Reinsma, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Kate earned the honor the same weekend she placed seventh at the National Meet's marathon in a time of 3:23:45.82. Kate is the daughter of Gerald and Carol Reinsma of Colorado Springs and is a 2000 graduate of Evangelical Christian Academy. Jacque Scoby, a junior English Literature major, also earned the recognition a day after placing 16th in the javelin at the National Meet with a throw of 122'7". Jacque is the daughter of Jim and Louise Scoby of Morrill, Kansas and is a 2000 graduate of Sabetha High School. Katie Hoekstra is also on the list after qualifying for the 4 x 800 meter relay in the National Meet. This team elected not to run. Hoekstra is a junior exercise science major and is from Richmond, Virginia. She is the daughter of Everett and Cathleen Hoekstra. Rebecca Demarest is a senior Exercise Science major from Lawrence, Kansas and is a 1999 graduate of Baldwin High School. Rebecca is the daughter of Ken and Susan Demarest of Lawrence. The lone men's representative is Aaron Klein, a senior sprinter from Mount Vernon, Washington. Klein is the son of Mark and Debra Klein of Mount Vernon. All four athletes are coached by Dr. Syne Altena. NAIA Scholar Athletes must be a junior or senior, maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, make significant contributions to their team and be nominated by their coach.
