History…the Spartans and the Blades have never played each other prior to these contests.

Last time out…the Blades played a pair of games against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on November 1 and 2, losing 6-2 in the first contest.  In the second game, the Pioneers got two goals from freshman Sam Dvorak and beat Dordt 5-1 on Saturday.  Dordt College hung tight with last year’s division champion in the first period, but surrendered a late goal to Abe Liebel that gave Platteville a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

The second period was all Platteville as the Pioneers used two power-play goals and a short-handed tally to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

The power play goals both came off the stick of Dvorak, who beat senior keeper Riley Braun twice on shots from the point. Platteville finished the game 2-for-7 on the man-advantage.

The Blades looked to score on their own power play late in the second, but had the puck stolen behind their own net by Alex Walczak, who found Matt DeGrave for a one-time shot. DeGrave’s short-handed goal made it 4-0 after two stanzas.

Platteville’s Richard Ronan converted a shot from a tough angle early on in the third period to score the Pioneers’ final goal. However, the Blades avoided the shutout when senior Dylan Van Dyk buried his third goal of the year off a feed from junior Nic Enerson.

Dordt was outshot 47-30 for the game. Platteville keeper Andrew Hornick made 29 saves to record the victory.

The Spartans’ last two outings resulted in a pair of wins against Robert Morris by scores of 7-2 and 3-1.
