The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra will open its season, “The Year of the Composer” with a concert celebrating the 200th birthday of composers Guiseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. NISO welcomes soloists Shannon Salyards and Russell Svenningsen to the stage to perform some of Verdi’s and Wagner’s most famous opera arias.
Advance tickets are available at the following area retailers: True Vine in Sioux Center, The Dove Christian Bookstore in Orange City, Something Special in Rock Valley, and Prairie Moon Books in Sheldon. The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra comprises the finest musicians in the tri-state area. Teaching principals are of a professional caliber and function as first chair players and teachers in sectional rehearsals. The orchestra membership includes adults of all ages as well as gifted music students from area junior high schools, high schools, and colleges. Six of the high school students in NISO receive scholarships to continue their private lessons. NISO presents three concerts per season in addition to the annual Concert for Children for 900 area fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students.
