GPAC Women's Basketball Poll Out

(Monday, October 14; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The Great Plains Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Preseason poll was released late last week and the Dordt College Defenders were picked seventh in the balloting.

The Defenders took 43 points in the balloting done by the 11 conference coaches.  Concordia and Morningside tied for the preseason nod with 93 points and had five and four first place votes each.

Dordt was 16-15 last season and  open the 2013-14 season on Friday, October 25 when the Defenders host York (Nebraska).  The Defenders begin GPAC play on Saturday, November 16 when they travel to Midland and open the home portion of the conferences season one week later when they host Doane on November 23.  Other schedule highlights include a pair of games scheduled for December 30 and 31 at a classic hosted by Westmont in Santa Barbara, California.

The Defenders return 10 players who played in at least 21 games last season.  Kara Van Dyke is the top returning scorer with a 12.8 points per game to go with 7.5 rebounds per outing.  Kayla Broekhuis also scored 12 points per game and Elise Maresh is back after scoring 9.7 points per game with 4.9 rebounds per contest.
