Defenders Take Votes In First Men's Cross Country Poll

(Wednesday, August 28; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College men received 57 votes in the 2013 NAIA Men’s Cross Country Coaches’ Preseason Poll released on Wednesday, August 28.

The Defenders were in the “Others Receiving Votes” portion of the poll had had the 30th highest total for all teams.  Dordt will open the 2013 season on Friday, September 6 at a Twi-Light Meet hosted by Augustana in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The meet opens a schedule that includes five meets preparing the Defenders for the 2013 Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships  November 9.

The Defenders reached the 2011 NAIA National Championship Meet and sent two runners to the National Meet in 2012, one of whom, Nathan Jackson, returns for his junior season.  Dordt is coached by Greg Van Dyke who is entering his eighth year as cross country coach for both the Defender men and women.

St. Francis (Illinois) holds down the top spot in the preseason poll with 560 total points.  Voting for the poll was done by 20 coaches nationwide.  The rankings will be released on a weekly basis beginning September 18.
