Ag Field Day September 4
August 26, 2013
While farmers reflect on the past growing season, they may have questions as they prepare for the next. Dordt College agriculture department and ISU Extension Farmer-Assisted Research and Management will hold a Joint Field Day on Wednesday, September 4, to help answer some of these questions. The event begins with a burger meal at 6 p.m.
“We are highlighting research that is particularly relevant to this year’s crop production challenges and will help answer questions that corn and soybean producers have in our area,” said Gary De Vries, Dordt College instructor of agriculture.
Tours begin at 6:30 and will take farmers through the following stations:
- Is the drought over? A view from below – Joel De Jong, Northwest Iowa Crop Extension specialist
- Managing weed resistance in the post-glyphosate era – Evan Wielenga, agronomy manager for the Hull Coop Association
- The future of corn rootworm control – Erin Hodgson, ISU Extension entomologist
- Preventative measures to minimize soil erosion – Greg Marek, NRCS soil conservationist
“Dordt College and ISU Farmer-Assisted Research and Management share a common goal of providing unbiased research data to assist in the decision-making process on farm operations,” said De Vries. “The event is going to be informative and helpful as producers make decisions for the next year.”
Dordt College Agriculture Stewardship Center is located 1 2/3 north of Pella Corporation at 3648 U.S. highway 75.
