Dordt Choral Ensembles to perform

“A Tapestry of American Choral Music” will be the theme of the Dordt College spring choral concert on Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the B. J. Haan Auditorium.

The Dordt College Chorale, Kantorei, Concert Choir and Women’s Chorus will perform, with all four ensembles joining to conclude the evening with Hallelujah, a Southern Harmony shape-note hymn. The men of the Chorale and Concert Choir will also join forces to sing two Civil War songs. Choral Ensembles

Americana, an arrangement by Randall Thompson, will be featured by the Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Kornelis. This group will also perform a medley of cowboy songs and Circus Band by Charles Ives.

The Kantorei will continue the American salute with the music of Stephen Foster, Thomas "Fats" Waller, and Billy Joel. Also under the direction of Dr. Kornelis, the Chorale will perform William Billings' Revolutionary War anthem Chester, plus music by Lowell Mason, Thomas Dorsey, Amy Beach, and William Dawson.

The Women's Chorus, under the direction of Pam DeHaan, will present an original work by a Dordt alum, Jennifer Van Weelden Baham, Class of ’93. Based on Isaiah 40:28-31, The Lord is an Everlasting God was written and dedicated to Jennifer’s sister. The women will also present arrangements by Eric Thiman, Randall Thompson and Luigi Zaninelli.

There is no cost to attend the concert. The public is cordially invited.
