GPAC Women's Tournament Bracket Released

The Dordt College Defenders are the number seven seed in the eight-team post-season Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament bracket released late Saturday night.  The Defenders finished the season with a 10-10 conference record and were tied with Mount Marty and Hastings for sixth place in teh final GPAC standings.  The Defenders will travel to Concordia in Seward, Nebraska on Wednesday, February 20 for the quarterfinal round of the tournament. 

Morningside will be the number one seed when the 2013 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Postseason Basketball Championships begins on Wednesday, February 20.  The Mustangs went 17-3 in the league to win the GPAC regular season championship and also secured an automatic berth to the NAIA Women’s Division II National Tournament in Sioux City.  Fourth ranked Morningside finished the regular season at 25-4.  Concordia will be the number two seed, Northwestern the three seed, Briar Cliff the fourth seed in the conference tournament.
The semifinals are on Saturday, February 23, at the highest two remaining seeds.  GPAC Championship Tuesday, sponsored by Rawlings, will be on Tuesday, February 26.  The GPAC Postseason Champion garners an automatic berth to the NAIA National Basketball Tournament (the runner-up gains the berth if the regular season champion (Morningside) wins the postseason).

#8 Hastings (15-15, 10-10) at #1 Morningside (25-4, 17-3), 7pm
#5 Dakota Wesleyan (20-10, 11-9) at #4 Briar Cliff (22-8, 13-7), 7pm
#6  Mount Marty (16-13, 10-10) at #3 Northwestern (21-6, 15-5), 6pm
#7 Dordt (16-14, 10-10) at #2 Concordia (24-5, 16-4), 7pm
(GPAC Tiebreakers determined the 6-8 seeds of the 10-10 tied teams)
