GPAC Baseball Poll Released

(Wednesday, January 30; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The 2013 Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball coaches’ pre-season poll has been released for the upcoming season.

The Dordt Defenders, who went 13-31 last season and 4-16 in the GPAC, earned 11 points in the balloting done by the conference coaches.  Doane took seven first place votes and 96 points to earn the pre-season nod after winning the GPAC regular season crown last year with a 16-4 record.

The Defenders open the season on February 15 at Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, Kansas and will host their home opener on Thursday, March 28 against Morningside which is also the GPAC opener for the Defenders.

Nick Serrato leads the returners for Dordt with a .343 batting average in 2012 while Dustin Brisel and Nathan Fraley batted .333 and .313 last year. Brisel had ten doubles and 20 runs batted in while Fraley had 45 hits, seven doubles, three triples and 18 runs batted in.

Points in the poll are awarded on a 10-1 basis and coaches’ can’t vote for their own team.
