January 18, 2013
(Friday,
January 18; Sioux Center, Iowa) Michael Den Herder, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.
Den Herder, a 6-4, 185 pound forward, is averaging 16.5 points per game for Western along with 4.9 rebounds, three assists and one steal per contest. As a junior he averaged 10.5 points, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 4.7 rebounds.
"We are very pleased to have Michael join our program. He comes to Dordt College having been well-coached at Western Christian and knows what it means to play very hard. Michael is a very versatile player on both ends of the floor. He has improved his skill set a great deal between his junior and senior season and we believe he will continue to develop during his time here," said Dordt College coach Ross Douma.
Den Herder was a part of a Class 2A state title runner-up in 2011 and claimed academic all-state honors in football this fall and was an all-district honorable mention pick in football.
Michael is the son of Kirk and Diane Den Herder of Sioux Center, Iowa.
