Dordt College Instrumental Concert December 7

Dordt College’s instrumental ensembles will take to the stage of the B.J. Haan Auditorium for an Instrumental Concert on Friday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. Ensembles include the Campus-Community Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Concert Band, all conducted by Bradley Miedema.

The evening will include a mix of traditional literature as well as music for the Christmas season.

The Campus-Community Band, consisting of college and community musicians, will perform works including an early work for winds by Catel, a unique setting of Greensleeves by Hazo, and the classic Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson.

The Chamber Orchestra will perform pieces including Sonata da Camera in E Minor for strings and harpsichord by Vivaldi, Suite for Strings by Janacek, as well as two carol settings.

The Concert Band will perform pieces including the new work Spangled Heavens by Donald Grantham, as well as Rhapsody on Christmas Carols by Claude T. Smith, a work commissioned by the U.S. Marine Band.

The concert is free, with a freewill offering being received to help fund Dordt College music scholarships.
