Dordt Faces York Saturday

GAMETIME...The Dordt College women’s basketball team will travel to York, Nebraska to face the York Panthers on Saturday, November 24 in a game that starts at 2:00. The games will be broadcast on KDCR 88.5 FM and there will be an audio webstream available on the internet at www.dordt.edu/athletics. SCOUTING REPORT… York is 1-7 this season with a win over Bethel (Kansas). The Panthers have played five GPAC teams so far and will have played six of the Great Plains Athletic Conference members by Saturday when the Defenders pay their visit. York travels to Hastings on Friday night, November 23 for a game.
Here’s how the Panthers have fared against the GPAC in the five losses:
Dakota Wesleyan 90-60
The Panthers have been outscored 78.1-56.1 and is making 35 percent of the shots they take from the floor and opponents are having 43 percent success. York isn’t bashful about the three-point shot where they average over 20 attempts per game and they make one-third of them. York has been outrebounded 44.3-36.6 this season and have turned the ball over 25 times a game on average while opponents have given the ball up 15 times per outing. York has lost six games in a row.
Sara Lincoln tops the team with a 14.9 points per game average and she also gets 6.1 rebounds per game with a team high 23 assists in eight games played. She has also made a team high 19 three-point tries in 46 attempts for 41.3 percent success. Marisa Maher and Alyssa Becker score 8.9 and 7.1 points per game and Courtney Swope is at 5.5 points per game on average.
DEFENDER NOTES… The Defenders are 3-5 this season and 1-1 after two games in the GPAC. Dordt outscores teams 66.2-56.0 and outrebound teams 39.5-36.8. Dordt converts 40 percent of its field goals and limits opponents to 34.5 percent shooting. Dordt has shot nearly as many free throws as its opponents while making 105-165 and foes have made 108-167.
Kara Van Dyke has converted 15.0 points per game with a team high 8.5 rebounds per game. Van Dyke is converting 54.1 percent of her field goals and gets to the free throw line for 72 percent success (21-29). Kayla Broekhuis scores 10.7 points per game and is 9-19 on three-point shots. Elise Maresh scores 9.8 points per game with 6.6 rebounds and Brianna Spronk’s scoring average at 9.3 points per game with 5.3 rebounds. Jasmin Schelhaas leads the team in made three-pointers with 10 while attempting 23.
NEXT… York will travel to McPherson (Kansas) on Monday, November 26 in its next outing while the Defenders will go to the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota on Wednesday, November 28.
LAST TIME… Lincoln scored 23 points in a 79-62 loss to Sterling (Kansas) on November 19 after trailing 36-31 at halftime. Becker added 10 points and four assists along with a steal. York made 24-61 field goals and held Sterling to 24-65 shooting. Sterling took advantage of 27-32 free throw shooting to forge the win while York got to the free throw line just ten times with seven makes.
Dordt was on the short end of a 55-51 decision to Mount Marty on Tuesday night. After trailing 32-24 at halftime the Defenders tied the game and eventually took th lead before falling behind in the final minutes of the game. Kara Van Dyke led all players with 21 points and 11 rebounds and she had one assist and one steal. Jasmin Schelhaas added nine points while making 3-6 three-point baskets.
SERIES…Dordt leads the series 5-0 and won the meeting last year in Sioux Center by a 65-41 margin. Dordt was up 35-18 at halftime and held a 36-35 rebounding edge. Dordt forced 32 turnovers and made 27-59 field goals. Kara Van Dyke led Dordt with 19 points and Danelle Boone added nine and Jessica Jelsema assisted on seven. Van Dyke grabbed nine rebounds. York was led by Alyssa Becker with 14 points and Sara Lincoln had nine points and seven rebounds.
