November 15, 2012

(Thursday, November 15; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Brandon Broersma, a senior at Sunnyside Christian High School (Washington), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.

Broersma averaged 14.3 points per game as a junior with 10.1 rebounds and 5.6 blocks and was named to the Greater Columbia all-league team and claimed all-tournament team honors at the state tournament when Sunnyside Christian finished fourth in Class 1B. He also took all-state honors from the Associated Press.  Broersma is a 6-7 forward and helped Sunnyside Christian to state tournaments in 2010 and 2011.

"Having Brandon commit to Dordt College is very exciting for our program as he possesses a great deal of potential.  Brandon’s size and athleticism give him the opportunity to be an outstanding college player over the course of the next four years," said Dordt College coach Ross Douma.  "He comes from a winning high school program where he has experienced a great deal of success.  We look forward to seeing him develop during his time on our campus."

Brandon is the son of Fred and Julie Broersma.  He plans to study pre-med at Dordt College.
