Soccer Travels To Briar Cliff Tuesday

GAMETIME… Dordt College will travel to Sioux City, Iowa to face the Briar Cliff Chargers on Tuesday, October 16. The women’s game will start at 2:00 and the men’s contest will get underway at about 4:00. SCOUTING REPORT… The Briar Cliff women are 3-2-1 in the GPAC and 5-6-3 overall. The Chargers have conference wins over Morningisde, Dakota Wesleyan and Northwestern—all by one goal. The losses are to Doane and Hastings. Briar Cliff has been outscored 34-17 this season and have been outshot on goal 157-113. Julie Redus leads the team with seven goals and McKayla Wessling has three goals. Sadelle Schultz leads the team with five assists. Kalynn Sortino has played all 1354 minutes in goal for the Chargers and has allowed 2.26 goals per-90 minutes played and has 123 saves.
The Charger men are 0-5-1 in the GPAC and 1-11-2 overall. The win for the Chargers is over Saint Mary (Kansas). Five of the losses for Briar Cliff have come by one goal. Briar Cliff’s tie in conference play is with Dakota Wesleyan. The Chargers have been outscored 50-16 this season and have been outshot on goal 162-80. Anthony Benitiz has scored four goals this season and Dominic Wetzbarger has scored three goals. Chase Beiermann has a team high four assists. Dan Snider has played 1258 minutes in goal and has allowed 48 goals for a 3.43 per-90 minutes played average and has made 110 saves.
DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Defender women are 1-10-3 this season and 0-5-1 in the GPAC. Dordt has been outscored 46-20 this season and have been outshot on goal 138-76. Allison Hogan has five goals to top Dordt and Sarah Byron has four. Marissa Le Duc has three assists as does Hogan to share team honors. Emily Holz has been playing goal for the Defenders the last four games and has played a total of 378 minutes with a 4.75 goals allowed per-90 minutes played.
The Dordt men are 8-6 this season and 4-2 in the conference. Dordt has outscored opponents 37-24 and have outshot teams on goal 115-103. Eric Grootenboer has scored a team high nine goals with four assists and Josh Brinkerhoff has eight goals. Brady Van Holland has five goals and a team high five assists—sharing assist honors with Scott Van Wylen. Jon Brinkerhoff has played 1272 minutes in goal with 24 goals allowed for a 1.7 goals allowed average and he has made 70 saves in goal.
THE SERIES… The Defenders lead the series 16-2-1 and won last year’s game 1-0 on a goal by Morgan Meissner in the 22nd minute. Dordt outshot Briar Cliff on goal 14-4.
The Dordt men lead the series 16-12-2 with the Chargers winning last year’s meeting 2-1 in double overtime. Chase Beiermann scored the game winner in the 105th minute. Phil Nywening had Dordt’s score in the 70th minute.
LAST TIME… The Chargers lost in women’s soccer to Hastings 6-1 with Jenna Biedenfeld knocking a goal in. Sortino had six saves while facing a total of 28 shots—12 of them on goal.
Dordt lost to Midland 6-1 on Saturday with Midland firing 27 shots---13 of the on goal. Meghan Warners had Dordt goal off an assist by Marissa Le Duc.
Hastings beat Briar Cliff 9-0 on Saturday with a 39-6 shot advantage and they had 17 shots on goal. Snider played 70 minutes in goal and had six saves.
Dordt beat Midland 2-1 with Grootenboer and Steven Talsma each scoring a goal. Brinkerhoff had eight saves in goal as the Defenders were out shot on goal 17-7.
NEXT UP…… Briar Cliff will host Concordia on Saturday, October 20 in women’s and men’s soccer.
