Soccer Faces Midland Saturday

GAMETIME… Dordt College will travel to Fremont, Nebraska to face the Midland Warriors on Saturday, October 13.  The women’s game will start at 11:00 AM and the men’s contest will get underway at about 1:00.  Results will be posted on www.dordt.edu/athletics ; https://www.facebook.com/dordtdefenders and https://twitter.com/dcathletics .

SCOUTING REPORT… The Midland women are 2-2-2 in the league and 6-4-4 overall.  The Warriors have won two games in a row with victories over Northwestern (1-0) and Concordia (3-0).  Midland has been outscored 24-13 this season and is led by Kelsie Schmitz with four goals.  Megan Manley has played 1260 minutes with 27 goals allowed and a 1.93 goals allowed average with 96 saves.

Midland is 5-1 in league play and 7-4-2 overall.  The Warriors have won five its last six games and has won four one goal games and lost three one goal contests.  Midland has outscored teams 27-17 this season and have outshot teams 96-80 on goal.  Alan Craig has scored ten goals and Adam Wood three.  Lewis Wilcox has allowed 17 goals with 62 saves and as a 1.4 goals allowed average in 1090 minutes played.

DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Dordt College women are 1-9-3 overall and 0-4-1 in league play.  Dordt has been outscored 40-19 and outshot on goal 125-75.  Allison Hogan has five goals and three assists and Sarah Byron has four goals.  Emily Holz has played 288 minutes in goal and has made 21 saves.  Katie Kortman has also played 856 minutes in goal but has played the field in the last seven games.

The Dordt men are 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the GPAC with wins over Mount Marty, Dakota Wesleyan and Concordia in the league.  Dordt has outscored teams 35-23 and have outshot teams on goal 108-86.  Eric Grootenboer shares team honors in goals with Josh Brinkerhoff at eight each.  Grootenboer has three assists as well while Brady Van Holland has five assists and five goals.  Scott Van Wylen has four goals and shares assist honors with Van Holland.  Jon Brinkerhoff has played 1182 minutes in goal and has allowed 23 goals with 62 saves and a 1.75 goals allowed average.

THE SERIES…The Dordt College women lead the series 10-6  and won last year’s game 2-1 in double overtime on a goal by Allison Hogan in the 106th minute.  Both teams had four shots on goal and Katie Kortman had three saves in goal for the Defenders.

The Defender men lead the series 6-5 with Midland winning last year’s game 2-1 in double overtime.  Alan Craig had both goals for the Warriors and he scored the game winner in the 109th minute. 

LAST TIME… Midland beat Concordia 3-0 on October 10 with goals by Lauren Gray, Nicola Hermes and Amanda Nutsch.  Megan Manley made eight saves in goal with Concordia outshooting Midland 8-6 o goal.

The Midland men beat Concordia 3-1 on Tuesday with Craig scoring two goals and Danny Pollard had one.  Wilcox allowed one goal and made seven saves.  Midland outshot Concordia 9-8.

The Dordt women played to a 1-1 tie with Dakota Wesleyan as Katie Kortman scored a goal in the 71st minute.  Wesleyan outshot Dordt 8-4 and Holz made seven saves in goal.

Dordt’s men won a 3-2 decision in overtime with Grootenboer scoring the game winner in the 93rd minute.  Grootenboer had two goals in the game and Brady Van Holland also had a goal in the 85th minute to tie it.  Dordt outshot the visitors 10-8.


NEXT UP…… Midland will travel to Doane for their next game on October 17.  Dordt is on the road Tuesday, October 16 when the teams face Briar Cliff in Sioux City.
