Dordt Cross Country At Briar Cliff Saturday

Meet Time…The Dordt College cross country teams will compete at the Briar Cliff Invite at McCook Lake, South Dakota and the Adams Nature Preserve.  The races will start at 10:00 on Saturday, October 6.

Last Year… The Dordt College Defender women's cross country team placed third at the Briar Cliff Invite run at the Adams Nature Preserve in near North Sioux City, South Dakota and the Defender men were fourth in the team race.

Dordt totaled 90 points in the women's race with Augustana (South Dakota) winning with 65 and Morningside was second with 77. The Defenders got a top finish by Michelle Steiger as she placed eighth overall and fifth in the points with a time of 18:27. Merissa Harkema was 13th in the points with a time of 18:54 and Renee Buikema and Lillie Koerner each claimed 17th and 18th in the points with times of 19:01 and 19:02. Abby De Vries completed the Dordt scoring with a 35th place time of 19:32. Dordt's two pushers were Hannah Orlow and Katie Bonnema who came in with times of 19:57 and 20:04. The Defenders kept the gap between its first and seventh runners at well under two minutes.

158 women's runners competed on the 5,000 meter course.

The Defender men's best finish came from Ryan Tholen with a time of 25:36 and 13th place in the points. Eric Tudor and Nathan Jackson were right behind with point finishes of 17th and 19th with times of 25:50 and 25:58. Jeremy Van Woerden was the fourth runner for Dordt with a 26:17 which was 26th and Tim Bierma completed the scoring with a 26:26 for 31st place. Stephan McNamara and Trent Kischer each recorded times of 26:35 and 26:39 respectively. The Defender men totaled 107 points in the 14 team field and were three points shy of Mount Marty for third place with Augustana (South Dakota) winning the event with 27 points and Morningside had 73 points for second.

153 runners competed on the 8,000 meter course.

Last Time… The Dordt College women's cross country had the lowest point total of the NAIA teams competing at the Roy Griak Invite at St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday, September 29. Dordt finished 11th in the 38 team field with 351 points.

Dordt was paced by Merissa Harkema with a time of 23:56 for 43rd place. Abby De Vries, Lauren Opp and Kayla Byl were next across the line with times of 24:20, 24:23 and 24:23 for 71st, 73rd and 74th overall. Katie Bonnema completed the Dordt scoring with a 90th place finish in 24:36.
Colorado Springs won the team title in the Division II race with 119 points. Melissa Agnew of the University of Mary was the first runner across in the 6,000 meter course with a time of 22:03. 413 runners competed in the race.

Dordt College finished 24th at the Roy Griak Invite.  The Defender men were led by Ryan Tholen's time of 27:08 over the 8,000 meter course for 67th overall. Nathan Jackson had a 27:34 which was good for 94th while Trent Kischer and Chris Postma were 118th and 141st respectively with times of 27:49 and 28:08. Ryan McNamara was Dordt's fifth runner across in 28:43 for 160 points.
Dordt totaled 590 points in the 36 team field. Colorado Springs won the Division II race with 93 points led by Emilio Trujillo's 25:33 for the individual title. 430 runners competed in the race.

Next…The Defender cross country teams will be running at the Mount Marty invite on Saturday, October 20 in the final race before the GPAC Championships on Saturday, November 3.
