Greg Van Soelen Inducted to Hall of Fame

Greg Van Soelen, head men's basketball coach at Dordt College, will be inducted into the Iowa High School basketball Hall of Fame Saturday, March 22 at the Iowa Boys State Basketball Tournament. Van Soelen averaged nearly 22 points and nine rebounds a game for Pella Christian as a junior and senior but was stopped shy of the state tournament both years in the substate finals. Van Soelen started in his second game as a freshman and proceeded to score in double figures in 106 straight games. For his career Van Soelen scored 3104 points, grabbed 1123 rebounds, made 1195 field goals and 712 free throws, converted on 63 percent of his shots while averaging 28.2 points per game over his career. Van Soelen's career was capped with a 25-5 record and Dordt's only trip to the NAIA National Tournament in 1988. Van Soelen was a first team NAIA All American as a Junior and Senior. He also played professionally in Europe, Latin America and the CBA before returning to Dordt College where he is currently the head men's basketball coach and admissions counselor. Van Soelen's career coaching record is 125-97 over his eight seasons at the helm.
