Dordt-Mount Marty Soccer Tuesday

GAMETIME… The Dordt College Defender soccer teams will host Mount Marty on Tuesday, October 2 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. The women’s game will start at 2:00 and the men will get underway at around 4:00. The games can be heard on a webcast at www.dordt.edu/athletics.
SCOUTING REPORT… The Mount Marty women are 3-7 this season and 0-3 in the conference. The Lancers have been outscored 30-11 this season and 14-0 in league losses to Doane, Dakota Wesleyan and Hastings. Allison Erwin leads the team with six goals and Laura Ekeren is the only other player with more than one goal. Jennifer Nelson has played 736 minutes in goal and has allowed 19 goals and made 42 saves for a 2.32 goals allowed average.
The Mount Marty men are 1-9 this season and 0-3 in the league and have a win over Grace for its only win so far. The Lancers have been outscored 39-14 and have been beaten by a combined 20-3 margin in three GPAC games. Jose Marquez has four goals and Josh Koch three. Oscar Martinez Mojica has allowed 26 goals in 83 minutes with 41 saves. Martinez Mojica has a 2.91 goals allowed average.
DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Defender women are 1-7-2 overall this season and have a win over AIB and ties with Waldorf and Mount Mercy. Dordt stands 0-3 in the GPAC with two of the losses coming by a goal each. Dordt has been outscored 26-18 this season while putting 62 shots on goal to 90 shots on goal for opponents. Allison Hogan has five goals and Sarah Byron four. Katie Kortman has allowed 23 goals in 854 mintues of play and has made 56 saves.
The Defender men are 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the GPAC with a win over Concordia and road losses to Northwestern and Nebraska Wesleyan. Dordt has been outscored 4-3 in conference games and have outscored opponents 26-17 this season. Dordt has put 85 shots on goal to 67 for foes. The Defenders have outscored teams 14-10 in the second half of games this season and are led in goals by Josh Brinkerhoff’s seven and Eric Grootenboer has five. Brady Van Holland, Eric Grootenboer and David Miedema each have three assists this year and share team honors. Jon Brinkerhoff has allowed 17 goals this season with 49 saves in 910 minutes of play. Brinkerhoff has allowed 1.68 goals per 90 minutes played.
THE SERIES… The Dordt women lead the series 9-0-1 with Mount Marty and won last year’s game 3-0 with goals by Victoria Vasquez, Rindy De Nooy and Tara Postma. Katie Kortman made two saves in goal for the Defenders.
The Defender men lead the series 14-2 and won last year 3-1 after scoring the first three goals of the game. Derick Sackey, Cameron Stuive and Brady Van Holland each had a goal for the Defenders and David Montes had the goal for the Lancers.
LAST TIME… Mount Marty was beaten by Hastings 6-0 on Saturday while getting outshot 35-4 overall and 19-1 on goal. Nelson made 13 saves in the loss.
The Defender women lost a 4-0 decision in Lincoln on Saturday night to Nebraska Wesleyan. The Defenders were outshot 13-1 with Katie Kortman registering two saves and Natalie Locke seven.
Hastings beat Mount Marty 12-0 on Saturday while getting outshot 41-2 and 21-1 on goal.
The Defender men lost a 3-1 decision at Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday night with Steven Talsma scoring the final goal of the contest in the 84th minute. Brinkerhoff made six saves in goal for the Defenders.
NEXT UP…… Mount Marty will host Concordia on Saturday, October 6.
Dordt will face Columbia (Missouri) on Saturday, October 6 in non-conference play.
