Dordt-Northwestern Soccer Wednesday Night

GAMETIME… Dordt College travels to Orange City on Wednesday, September 26 to face Northwestern.  The women’s game will start at 5:00 with the men to follow.

SCOUTING REPORT… The Northwestern women are 4-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the GPAC.  The win for Northwestern in the GPAC is over Nebraska Wesleyan.  Northwestern has been outscored 17-13 this year and have been outshot on goal 93-61.

Northwestern is led by Tyler Farr’s five goals and Mattie Ostrowski has three goals.  Farr and Michaela Gibson each have two assists as does Johannah Jensen.  Ariel Watts has played 652 minutes in goal with 14 goals allowed with 68 saves and has a 1.93 goals allowed average.

The Northwestern men are 0-1 in the GPAC and 5-3 overall.  The Raiders have been outscored 13-9 and have been outshot 126-98 overall and 61-46 on goal.

Jeriah Dunk scored four goals and Koray Karakas has three goals.  Harri Edwards and Gabriel Goncalves have two assists each.  Austin Stoesz has played 446 minutes in goal with 23 saves and six goals allowed.  He has a 1.21 goals allowed average.  Aaron Bosch has played 270 minutes and has allowed three goals for a 1.0 goals allowed average.

DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Dordt College women are 1-5-2 overall and 0-1 in the league after a 3-2 loss to Concordia.  Dordt has been outscored 21-18 this season and have been outshot on goal 65-55. 

Allison Hogan has five goals to lead the Defenders and she has three assists.  Sarah Byron has four goals while Elise Wedel and Marissa Le Duc each have two assists.  Katie Kortman has played 720 minutes in goal and has allowed 20 goals with 45 saves.  Kortman has a 2.5 goals allowed average.

The Defender men are 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the league and have outscored teams 25-13.  Dordt has outshot teams overall 138-92 and 73-50 on goal.

Josh Brinkerhoff has a team high seven goals and Eric Grootenboer has five goals with three assists.  Brady Van Holland leads the team with four assists and David Miedema has three assists.  Jon Brinkerhoff has played 730 minutes in goal with 13 goals allowed and has made 36 saves.  His goals allowed average is 1.6.

THE SERIES… The Dordt women have won 19 out of the 20 meetings between the two teams. The Defenders got a 3-2 win in Sioux Center last season with goals in the second half by Allison Hogan and Kelly Smies to secure the win. Alli Dunkelberger and Tyler Farr each had goals for Northwestern.  Dordt put 13 shots on goal to seven for Northwestern.

The Dordt men lead the series 25-7 with Eric Grootenboer scoring off a corner kick in the 71st minute for a 2-1 win.  Josh Brinkerhoff scored in the 11th minute for the Defenders and Graham Kinsinger scored just before the half.

LAST TIME… Northwestern beat Nebraska Wesleyan 3-2 in double overtime on Saturday with Farr scoring two goals and Ostrowski has one goal.  Watts made 11 saves in 107 minutes of play.

The Dordt women lost a 3-2 decision to Concordia on Saturday after getting down 3-0.  The Defenders scored two late goals in the 81st and 85th minutes to narrow the gap but couldn’t complete the comeback.  Marissa Le Duc and Katie Heynen each had one goal.

Nebraska Wesleyan banged out a 3-1 win over Northwestern on Saturday with the goal for Northwestern coming in the final 15 minutes of play by Jeriah Dunk.  Wesleyan scored all three of its goals in the first half. Northwestern outshot Nebraska Wesleyan o goal 10-8.

The Defender men scored two goals in the first six minutes for a 2-0 win over Concordia on Saturday.  Eric Grootenboer and Scott Van Wylen each had a goal while Jon Brinkerhoff had five saves for the shutout.

NEXT UP…… Dordt will travel to Lincoln on Saturday to face Nebraska Wesleyan and Northwestern will travel to Morningside next Tuesday, October 2.
