Soccer Home Saturday With Concordia

GAMETIME… Dordt College will host Concordia in women’s and men’s soccer on Saturday, September 22. The women’s game will get underway at 1:00 with the men to follow at 3:00. The games can be heard via a webcast at www.dordt.edu/athletics. The contests mark the start of the 10 match Great Plains Athletic Conference season for all four teams.
SCOUTING REPORT… The Concordia women enter with a 2-3 record and have won two games in a row since starting the season with losses to Benedictine, Nebraska Kearney and Bellevue. The wins have come over Sterling and York.
The Bulldogs are getting outscored 20-12 this season and are led by Rachel Mussell’s five goals. Jordan Donohoue has a team high four assists and three other players have two goals a piece. Concordia has been outshot on goal 51-38. Elyse Muhle has played 316 minutes in goal while allowing 16 goals for a 4.54 average and she has 25 saves.
The Concordia men are off to a 6-1 start with a loss to Bethel (Indiana) the lone blemish.
The Bulldogs have outscored teams 14-4 and have outshot teams on goal 58-28 and have outshot teams 95-76 overall. Nathan Douglas is the leading scorer with three goals while Aaron Skipworth has a team high four assists. Sean Doran has two goals and two assists. Brendan Buchanan has played 523 minutes in goal with three goals allowed for a 0.52 goals allowed average and he has made 21 saves.
DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Defender women are 1-4-2 this season and have been outscored by an 18-16 margin while getting outshot 89-54.
Allison Hogan has a team high five goals with two assists and Sarah Byron has four goals with an assist. Katie Kortman has played 652 minutes in goal and has a 2.48 goals allowed average and has made 43 saves.
The Defender men are 4-3 this season and have outscored teams 23-13.
Josh Brinkerhoff has a team high seven goals and Eric Grootenboer has four goals and three assists. David Miedema shares team honors with Grootenboer in assists. Jon Brinkerhoff has played 640 minutes in goal and has allowed 13 goals for a 1.83 average and has 31 saves.
THE SERIES…The Dordt women lead the series with Concordia 12-3. The Bulldogs won last year’s meeting by a 2-0 margin and they outshot the Defenders 17-2 overall and 6-0 on goal. Mallorie Blanck had both goals for Concordia.
The Defender men lead the series 19-6-1 but Concordia won last year’s meeting 4-1. Brady Van Holland had Dordt’s goal in the 34th minute while Concordia had four different goal scorers. Dordt was outshot 19-9 overall and 7-2 on goal.
LAST TIME… The Concordia women beat York (Nebraska) on Wednesday by a 1-0 score with Rachel Mussell getting a goal off an assist by Melissa Stine in the third minute that stood up the rest of the way. Concordia outshot York 26-4.
The Dordt women were 8-1 winners over AIB in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Tuesday. Sarah Byron and Allison Hogan each had two goals and Elise Wedel had two assists. Dordt outshot the Eagles 26-14 overall and 19-4 on goal.
The Bulldog men took a 3-1 decision over York and outshot them 23-8. Nathan Douglas had two goals as Concordia outscored York 2-0 in the second half to pull away from a 1-1 halftime tie.
The Defender men were 11-0 winners over Presentation on Wednesday afternoon in Sioux Center, mustering five goals in the first half and six more in the second half. Eric Grootenboer and Josh Brinkerhoff had three goals each and Grootenboer had two assists along with David Miedema.
NEXT UP…… Dordt is scheduled to travel to Northwestern on Wednesday, September 26 while Concordia will host Hastings in the midweek game.
