Men's Golf Tees Off Thursday

Meet… Dordt and Northwestern will host the Siouxland Invite on Thursday and Friday, September 6 and 7. The Thursday round will be played at Landsmeer Golf Course in Orange City while the Friday competition is at The Ridge.
Participants… teams from American Institute of Business, Briar Cliff, Buena Vista, Concordia, Doane, Hastings, Midland, Morningside, Mount Marty, Southwestern Community College and the hosts will be competing.
Last Year… The Dordt College Defender men's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place at the two-day Siouxland Invitational hosted in Sioux Center and Orange City on consecutive days.
The Defenders shot a two day total of 627, carding a 307 on day two to improve their standing in the 36-hole event.
The Dordt varsity team was paced by Ryan Kamp and Brandon McCracken--both shot 153 at The Ridge and Landsmeer and tied for ninth place. Kevin Fopma used a 76 on day two to place 17th with a 157 and Madison Moss improved from an 89 on day one at The Ridge to a 79 on day two at Landsmeer for a 168.
Northwestern won the event with a 575 and had the medalist and runner-up to spearhead their performance. Jay Monahan was the medalist with a 141.
Last Time Out… Dordt College finished tied for fourth in GPAC Qualifier #4 at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The round was originally scheduled to be played in Mitchell, South Dakota but was moved due to damage done to courses in that area by severe weather last weekend.
Dordt shot a team total of 327 and was just four shots out of a tie for second place. Northwestern won the meet with a 305 and took the four round title with a 1217 and qualified for the national meet.
Ryan Kamp and Madison Moss each shot 76's for the day and finished in a tie for fourth place. Morningside's Brandon Thompson shot a 74 for first place and won the individual title with a four round total of 296. Ryan Kamp's 309 for the event that spans four rounds on four different courses from September through May, was good for seventh and All-GPAC honors that go with it.
Brandon McCracken and Kevin Fopma completed Dordt's scoring on the 7,179 yard course with totals of 85 and 90.
The Lineup… Top returners for the Defenders this season are Jon Holwerda (81.2 average/five events); Madison Moss (83.2 average/nine events); Derek Fox (85.5 average/four events) and Nathan Middel (85.7 average/three events).
After This…Dordt will compete in GPAC Qualifier #1 in Orange City on Thursday, September 13.
