Volleyball Poll Released

August 7, 2012

(Tuesday, August 7; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The 2012 Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball coaches’  poll results have been announced for the upcoming season.

The Dordt Defenders are tied for fifth with Morningside in the poll with 69 points.  Doane is the favorite with 94 points and the Tigers accumulated six first place votes.  Five different teams garnered at least one first place vote in voting done by the 11 conference coaches.

Dordt College opens the season August 24 at the Northwestern Classic in Orange City, Iowa against Valley City State and Dickinson State.  Dordt will play in four matches that weekend and will open the GPAC season on Wednesday, September 5 at Briar Cliff.  The Defenders play their first home match of the season Friday, September 14 against Mayville State.

“Our program pre-season pick of 5th in the GPAC  gives us great room to grow and challenge the teams picked ahead of us,” said Dordt College head coach Chad Hanson.  “We also must give great credence to the strength of our conference by preparing appropriately for the teams picked behind us.  Last year’s conference race came down to the final week of play.  With four GPAC All-Conference honorees returning, our confidence as a program is growing and continuity of how to daily pursue excellence.”

Dordt College finished the 2011 season with a 16-17 overall record and a 10-6 GPAC mark which was good for fifth in the final standings.
