More Honors For Vander Woude

May 10, 2012

(Thursday, May 10; Sioux Center, Iowa) Honors for the 2012 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Outdoor Women's Track and Field Season have been announced and Dordt College’s Briana Vander Woude (Junior; Clara City, Minnesota) continues to reap honors from a standout season.

Vander Woude was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete-of-the-Year for the recently completed season. Vander Woude scored 26 points in the GPAC Championships for the Defenders. Vander Woude was also the GPAC Indoor Track and Field Athlete-of-the-Year. This award is based on points scored during the Championship Meet.

Vander Woude was also awarded the Women's Top Performance-of-the-Meet for her record setting performance in the long jump. Her jump was 19-08.75 and broke the old mark set in 1987 by Carol Bailey from Concordia.  This award is voted on by the GPAC coaches.

Vander Woude set three school records at the GPAC Meet, establishing new standards in the long jump, high jump (5-7.25) and 100 hurdles (:14.47).  She has met the NAIA National Meet qualifying standard in those three events and the heptathlon.
