Internationally acclaimed organist to perform

Internationally acclaimed organist, David Higgs, will perform Saturday, April 5, 7:30 p.m. at the B. J. Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt College, Sioux Center. Higgs will perform on Dordtís Casavant organ, one of the largest pipe organs in the midwest. David Higgs

David Higgs began his career on the organ at the age of 10 as a church organist in New York City. He studied classical music and performed in several rock, gospel and soul music groups before earning both a Bachelorís and Master of Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music and a Performerís Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. His teachers have included Claire Coci, Peter Hurford, Russell Saunders and Frederick Swann.

The Chair of the Organ Department at the Eastman School of Music, Higgs performs frequently at major national and international organ festivals, including those in Calgary, Naples, Redlands, San Anselmo, the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, the Interlochen School for the Arts, Mt. Royal College-Conservatory in Calgary and events in England.

Mr. Higgs has recorded for Delos International, Pro Organo and Gothic Records, and is a highly sought-after master organist and lecturer internationally. He has inaugurated new instruments in facilities including St. Stephanís Cathedral, Vienna, and has performed with the Empire Brass, the San Francisco Symphony and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Chanticleer.

The public is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to hear music of such high caliber. The event is sponsored by the Dordt College Music Department. There is no charge to attend.
