March 26, 2012

Over 130 high school students from Northwest Iowa participated in the Dordt College Biotech Ag Tours on Monday, March 19, touring agriculture-related businesses in the Sioux Center area. Students toured and learned about Dykstra Dairy near Struble, Natural Food Holdings, Sioux Pharm, and Trans Ova. Mini-tours of Dordt College were also given.

The Dordt College agriculture department uses this annual event to educate students about agriculture and biotechnology by showing them the wide range of careers that exist in those areas.

Guest speaker Dani Heeren, college talent specialist from Land O’Lakes, spoke over the noon-hour, encouraging the students to pursue careers in the agriculture industry and noting that these rewarding positions can also be high paying jobs.

High schools participating in the biotech ag tours included Boyden-Hull, Central Lyon, Washington, George-Little Rock, MOC-Floyd Valley, Rock Valley, Sioux Center, Sioux Central, Unity Christian, and West Lyon.
