Senior student presents theater project of “The Women of Lockerbie”

March 26, 2012

The award-winning and inspiring play written by Deborah Brevoort, The Women of Lockerbie, is coming to the New World Theatre at Dordt College. The production is the senior theater project of Clare Laverman, a Dordt College senior from Sully, Iowa.

“It would be fair to say that I didn’t pick The Women of Lockerbie so much as it found me,” said Clare Laverman of her senior theater production. The story and the characters were so compelling that Laverman threw out her original plans and moved forward producing The Women of Lockerbie. “It was a story I felt connected to, and one I felt I had to tell,” she said.

The Women of Lockerbie tells the story of a group of people fighting the U.S. government to obtain clothing of victims found in an airplane’s wreckage. Each character represents a piece of the puzzle that is a journey through grief. Coming together, they find a way to move past tragedy to hope.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. March 29, 30, and 31, and tickets will be available at the box office just outside the theater in the Ribbens Academic Complex the day of the performance. Tickets are $2 for students and $5 for adults.
