Dordt College presents March 6 Choral Ensembles Concert
February 27, 2012
The Chorale will sing their way through music history, with works from the major eras: The Gregorian Chant “Ut queant laxis” (medieval), Schütz's “Ehre sei dir, Christe” (early baroque), “Awake the Trumpet's Lofty Sound” from Handel's oratorio Samson (mature baroque), Mozart's “Laudate Dominum” with soprano soloist Marina Jelsma and violinist Mia Kornelis (classical), Mendelssohn's “Heilig” (romantic), and Gyorgy Deak-Bardos' “Eli, Eli!” (20th century).
The Kantorei will be singing David von Kampen's “Psalm 108,” William Dawson's arrangement of the spiritual “There Is a Balm in Gilead,” and two jazz standards, “All the Things You Are” and “Java Jive.”
The Bella Voce Women's Chorus will sing works by Dvorka and Pergolesi, as well as a set of pieces on a cat theme – Rossini's “Comic Duet for Two Cats” and Paul Carey's “Alley Cat Love Song,” and will conclude with Rollo Dilworth's setting of Psalm 23, “Beside the Still Waters.”
The concert is free, and a freewill offering will be received.
The Concert Choir will present a separate concert when they return to Sioux Center following their five-state music tour to Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, and New Mexico. The Tour Homecoming Concert will be held on March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. More information to come.
