Dreaming of spring? Visit the Lawn and Garden Expo

Forget the winter blahs and do some summer daydreaming at the 2012 Lawn and Garden Expo at Dordt College. KDCR radio, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension, and Greenworld are sponsoring this two-day expo held Friday, February 3, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, February 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lower level of the Dordt College Campus Center.

The expo will feature vendor booths, cooking demonstrations by Hy-Vee catering, and 14 seminars.

Friday seminars:
3:15 p.m. Designing a bird sanctuary (Sunday Ford – Sioux County Conservation)
4 p.m.  DIY landscaping design (Nickkie and Josie – Greenworld)
4:45 p.m. Container Gardening (Julie Koster and Esther D’Agrosa)
5:30 p.m. Flavors of NW Iowa – Locally Grown Food (Laura Kuennen – ISU)
6:15 p.m. Growing Grapes/Making Wine (Mark Buss)
7 p.m.  Food Preservation 101 (Renee Sweers – ISU)

Saturday seminars:
9:15 a.m. Shrubs and Perennials: New for 2012 (Josie and Heather – Greenworld)
10 a.m.  Composting (Margaret Murphy – ISU)
10:45 a.m. Plant your garden with nutrition in mind (Charlotte Kooima – Dordt College)
11:30 a.m. Community gardens (Michael and Carolyn Yoder)
12:15 p.m. Pruning tips (Dr. Jesse Randall – ISU)
1 p.m.  Floral arranging (Sheryl Phipps – Special Occasions Floral)
1:45 p.m. Create your own backyard oasis (Nickkie and Eric – Greenworld)
2:15 p.m. Frugal gardening (Julie French)

Admission to the expo is free, and donations will be accepted to help defray costs.
