The Power of Godís Gospel Now is theme for Day of Encouragement

December 29, 2011

Being active in your church’s ministries can sometimes be overwhelming. For this reason, Dordt College is hosting its annual Day of Encouragement, a day for leaders in the church to be inspired, encouraged, challenged, and further equipped in their tasks. Day of Encouragement will be held Saturday, February 4.

This year’s keynote speaker is Rev. Tim Vink, coordinator of church multiplication for the Reformed Churches of America (RCA), who will talk about the Power of God’s Gospel Now. Vink was baptized in the Luverne, Minn., American Reformed Church, and he has pastored growing Reformed churches in Maurice, Iowa, and Tulare, California. He has been part of starting hundreds of new churches with the RCA.

“Full recovery of the Gospel is foundational to our society’s revival and reformation. Every church and leader needs to be continually gripped and renewed by the good news of the kingdom of God at hand,” Vink says. In his talk, he explores the following questions: How Gospel-centered is your life? How Gospel-grounded is your church?

In his breakout sessions, Vink will focus on how to help people experience the good news of the gospel through healing and deliverance, an approach that might be different from what many experience in traditional RCA and CRC ministries.

Day of Encouragement will have several breakout sessions for elders, pastors, deacons, caregivers, youth leaders, and church members. A sampling of sessions include More than Memorization: Teaching the Heidelberg Catechism (Todd Zuidema, pastor at Hope CRC in Hull, Iowa), Music in Worship (Keith Getty, featured artist and hymn writer), and Sexual Purity and Your Family Destiny (Fred Stoeker, author of Every Man’s Battle series).

You can find a complete list of sessions and registration materials at Churches can request information by contacting Wes Fopma, Dordt College church relations director, at or by calling (712) 722-6028.

Modern-day hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty will conclude the evening with a 7 p.m. concert in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. They are the writers of such powerful songs as “In Christ Alone” and “The Power of the Cross.” Purchase tickets at (712) 722-6028.
