NISO Fall Concert – Number One! features Richard Bogenrief on Trumpet!
November 14, 2011
The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra (NISO) will present its annual Fall Concert on Tuesday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.
In our season of Fabulous Firsts, we celebrate Christopher Stanichar’s first season as conductor of NISO with friend and NISO principal trumpeter, Richard Bogenrief. The orchestra plays Beethoven’s riveting Leonore Overture No. 1, one of four overtures that Beethoven composed for his revolutionary opera Fidelio. The orchestra is joined by Mr. Bogenrief for a performance of Arutiunian’s Concerto for Trumpet, one of the most virtuosic and fun concertos for this instrument. The concert concludes with the orchestra’s performance of Kalinnikov’s stirring, yet rarely heard, Symphony No. 1.
Tickets may be ordered through e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling (712) 722-6230. Tickets are also available at the following area retailers: True Vine in Sioux Center, The Dove Christian Bookstore in Orange City, Something Special in Rock Valley, and Prairie Moon Books in Sheldon. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the night of the concert.
The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra is comprised of the finest musicians in the tri-state area. Teaching principals are of a professional caliber and function as first chair players and teachers in sectional rehearsals. The orchestra membership includes adults of all ages as well as gifted music students from area junior high schools, high schools, and colleges. Nine high school students receive scholarships to continue their private lessons. NISO presents three concerts per season in addition to the annual Concert for Children for 900 area 5th and 6th grade students.
NISO is supported by the Sioux Center Recreation and Arts Council, the Friends of the Symphony, and individual patrons and business establishments.
