Dordt College production company wins Platinum Award

November 14, 2011

Last semester, students Aaron Yoder and Andrea Kreykes set out to produce a video that the Dordt College admissions department could use that would give a quick two-minute glimpse into what life at Dordt College is really like. They were not only successful in creating the video, but they also won a prestigious Platinum MarCom Award sponsored by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals.

“We wanted a video that was full of action with lots of student shots,” said Quentin Van Essen, executive director of admissions. “What Andrea and Aaron produced accomplished all of that and then some.”

Kreykes and Yoder, both 2011 Dordt graduates, produced a fast-paced and energized two-minute video that captured the vibrant spirit of Dordt College that is present in academics, worship, and campus life.

“The flow of the video creates a great deal of excitement, and the music is catchy and greatly complements the action. We love to show it at every opportunity,” said Van Essen.

Of approximately 5,000 entries, only 18 percent won the Platinum Award, the organization’s highest honor. MarCom is one of the oldest, largest, and most respected competitions in the industry. The MarCom awards are given to companies and individuals whose marketing and communications materials stand out as the highest standard of excellence.

Dordt digital media students have been earning a reputation for creating excellent productions, many of which have won national and international awards.
