February 12, 2003

Andrew Schaap, a senior at Dordt College, will present his senior recital at the B. J. Haan Auditorium on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m.

Andrew is a three-time recipient of the Ringerwole Organ Scholarship and the 2002 winner of the Iowa Federation of Music Clubs Organ Competition. His major is organ performance and pedagogy, and he is one of the accompanists for the Dordt Concert Choir. He is currently under the instruction of Dr. Joan Ringerwole, who has been his Dordt College instructor for the past four years. Andrew Schaap

Andrew will perform on one of the largest organs in the Midwest, Dordt College’s 57-rank Casavant pipe organ, with 2,865 pipes that range in speaking length from one inch to 16 feet.

Andrew’s repertoire reflects many different styles, including baroque, romantic, modern and gospel. Selected pieces will include “Wondrous Love” by Samuel Barber and “Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child,” by William Bolcom, with a hint of Motown music in the pedal. His finale, “Carillon” makes the most of Schaap’s ability, enhanced by the acoustics of the B. J. Haan Auditorium.

Schaap is the son of Marvin and Carol Schaap, South Holland, Ill. The public is invited to attend this free recital and the reception that follows.
