Dordt College faculty presents Sunday night poetry reading

September 19, 2011

“Through words, we celebrate and notice all the nuances of life; through words we create reality, examine it, and transform it,” said Mary Dengler, Dordt College professor of English.

Help celebrate and notice life at the 25th annual Faculty Poetry Reading, featuring words penned by Dordt College English professors. They’ll be sharing their reflections, stories, and poems with the community on Sunday, September 25, at 8 p.m., in the Science and Technology Center on the campus of Dordt College.

Presenters include English faculty Bob De Smith, Mary Dengler, Bill Elgersma, Howard Schaap, James C. Schaap, and Leah Zuidema, as well as emeritus English Professor Mike Vanden Bosch.

The reading provides listeners with an opportunity to hear work written by campus authors and understand more about who these professors are outside of their classrooms – and along the way, perhaps learn a bit about themselves as well.

“Like students, English faculty look forward to this event with excitement and even a little trepidation,” said Dengler. “It forces us to complete whatever non-academic writing projects we’ve dallied with during the year. And it exposes a very personal part of our lives – our imaginative writing.”

Refreshments will be served. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.
