Join Campus-Community Band at Dordt College

September 5, 2011

If you play a wind or percussion instrument and are interested in playing with a college-level ensemble, consider joining the Dordt College Campus-Community Band.

The ensemble is dedicated to the study and performance of significant literature for winds and percussion. Membership is open to college students, community adults, and outstanding high school students. It’s a great way to supplement a student’s study and an excellent way for community members to continue performing.

“The unique mixture of community members and students creates an atmosphere of genuine collaboration not often found in civic ensembles,” said Bradley Miedema, director of instrumental music at Dordt College and conductor of the Campus-Community Band. “I am so pleased that community musicians have this opportunity to continue playing their instruments; involvement in instrumental music never has to end just because one has graduated from high school or college.”

Rehearsals are held on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Dordt College Instrumental Room. The first rehearsal will be Sept. 29. Five concerts will be held from Oct. 21 through April 27.

High school players must have a recommendation from their high school band director to participate. For more information or to sign up, call Miedema at (712) 722-6204 by Friday, Sept. 23.
