June 29, 2011

Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich will visit Dordt College on Monday, July 11, as part of a Presidential Lecture Series hosted by The Family Leader. He will be speaking in Dordt’s Campus Center at 9:30 a.m. in an event that is free and open to the public. Gingrich will be available to the media in the Campus Center at 10:30 a.m.

Dordt College is one of three Iowa venues for the series. Candidates will be making stops later in the day at Pella Christian High School and the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

Gingrich officially announced his candidacy for the office of President via twitter on May 11, 2011. Gingrich represented Georgia in Congress for 20 years, including four years as Speaker of the House before stepping down in 1998. In addition, Gingrich served on the Defense Policy Board under President George W. Bush. He has authored 23 books including 13 New York Times bestsellers.

“Iowans play a vital role in hosting the first-in-the-nation presidential caucus,” said Bob Vander Plaats, president and CEO of The Family Leader. The group’s lecture series gives Northwest Iowans a chance to meet and evaluate the candidates in person.

Dordt College is pleased to provide a venue for the series and has a history of hosting candidates for public office as a way to promote civic awareness and political engagement by Christians. The forums give Dordt students and the surrounding community an opportunity to participate in the events, meet the candidates, and learn more about the political process.
