Dordt Ag Department hosts Biotech Ag Tours

High school students from nine area schools joined the Dordt College Ag Department to see and learn about the career opportunities that exist in agriculture and biotechnology. On March 21, they toured four innovative businesses in the Sioux Center area.

Dykstra Dairy, Sioux Pharm, Inc., Farmers Coop, and Trans Ova Genetics hosted tour groups. Mini-tours of Dordt College were also offered.

The guest speaker at a noon luncheon was Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, who talked about both the many possibilities available in agriculture and the quality of technology and farming methods available in Iowa.

A total of 123 people participated in the biotech tours, from the following high schools: Akron-Westfield, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Kingsley-Pierson, Maple Valley-Anthon Oto, MOC-Floyd Valley, Sioux Center, Sioux Central, Siouxland Community Christian, and Westwood.
