Emily Hageman and Jenn Roetman present joint recital

March 24, 2011

Emily Hageman and Jenn Roetman present a joint vocal and saxophone recital in the B.J. Haan Auditorium on Friday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m.

Hageman is a soprano who has been a finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition in 2009 and 2010. She will perform several selections including her favorite, “Bravour Variations” on a Theme by Mozart (Ah, Vous Dirai-je, Maman—Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) by Adolphe Adam.

“Not only is it fun to collaborate with my fellow performer, Jenn, it is also really neat to work on a piece so challenging and amusing,” said Hageman. Hageman is a junior at Dordt College from Highlands Ranch, Colo., and is majoring in secondary music education. Nancy Vermeer will play the piano accompaniment.

Roetman will perform a number of pieces on her saxophone. “Emily’s and my talents will be combined in an exciting duet. My part of the program will include a classic French piece commonly found in a saxophonist’s repertoire, an unaccompanied blues/jazz piece, and a funky saxophone quartet piece,” said Roetman. The quartet is made up of Roetman, Jon Bierma, Deborah Jude, and Joel Pertzsch. Roetman is a Dordt College senior from Rock Rapids, Iowa, and is majoring in psychology.

A reception will immediately follow the recital. Both events are free and open to the public.
