Soodsma Named All-American

(Thursday, March 17; Sioux Center, Iowa) Amber Soodsma, a senior at Dordt College from Hudsonville, Michigan, has earned NAIA Division II Third-Team All-American basketball honors for the 2010-2011 season.

Soodsma claimed the honor after averaging 14.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. Soodsma ends her career as the all-time women’s basketball scoring leader at Dordt College with 1736 points. Soodsma also grabbed 733 rebounds during her career which ranks 4th all-time. The senior from Hudsonville, Michigan snagged 184 steals during her career which ranks 6th in Dordt history and she had 206 assists and 112 blocked shots. She also leaves Dordt College having played in a program record 120 games.

Soodsma earned first-team all-Great Plains Athletic Conference honors twice. She was voted 2011 GPAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and 2008 GPAC Freshman of the Year and has twice earned Basketball NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.

Soodsma is the second Dordt College Defender women’s basketball player to claim NAIA All-American Honors. Lisa Roos, whose scoring record Soodsma broke, was a 1999 second-team selection.
