February 4, 2011

The Maia String Quartet will perform a 7:30 p.m. guest concert Friday, Feb. 11, in the B.J. Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt College. The concert is free and open to the public.

The group will perform string quartets by Ludwig van Beethoven and Ruders, plus a viola quintet by Brahms featuring Julia Bullard, viola professor at the University of Northern Iowa.

The Maia Quartet, quartet-in-residence at the University of Iowa, has established itself as an ensemble of innovation and versatility. The Baltimore Sun said the musicians have “sparkling musical intelligence and youthful enthusiasm.”

In addition to a performance at Dordt, the quartet’s 2010-11 season includes appearances for the Sheldon Friends of Chamber Music series in Lincoln, Neb, the Quad Cities Visiting Artist series, the City University of New York Chamber Music Series, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
