Scott Olson presents trumpet recital Feb. 4

Scott Olson, adjunct instructor of trumpet at Dordt College, will present a 7:30 p.m. trumpet recital Friday, Feb. 4. Olson will be accompanied by Pam De Haan, the pianist. This free concert will be held in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

The program includes Sonata for Trumpet by Eric Ewazen, movements 1 and 2 of Concert Etude by Alexander Goedicke, and three jazz selections accompanied by Dordt students Caleb Buum and Darin Lammers. Olson will be joined by trombonist Vance Shoemaker in Moving Parts by Daniel Kelly.

Olson is a graduate of South Dakota State University. He performs as principal trumpet of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and as second trumpet of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. As a jazz musician, he performs with the South Dakota Jazz Orchestra. At Dordt, in addition to teaching trumpet lessons, Olson teaches Brass Pedagogy and directs Jazz Band.
