November 15, 2010

Former Dordt College engineering professor Dr. Paulo Ribeiro will hold a lecture titled “The Largest Machine Man Ever Built: An Inside Look into the Electric Power Grids of the Present and the Future” on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 7 to 8 p.m. in science building room 108. This free event is open to the public.

While the material presented has a strong technical basis that will be of interest to engineers and to engineering and science students, the presentation will also be geared toward anyone who uses electricity and is interested in how it is provided.

Audiences will learn about the technical characteristics, operational features, current technologies, and future developments of electric energy supply systems.

Dr. Ribeiro taught in the Dordt College engineering department from 1987 to 1992. He currently serves in the engineering department at Calvin College, where he continues to teach, consult, and publish research in the areas of advanced power systems, power electronics, and signal processing applied to power systems as well as leading interim classes on the work on C.S. Lewis.

Dordt College is a comprehensive Reformed Christian college located at 498 Fourth Ave. NE in Sioux Center, Iowa. Dordt has an accredited engineering program that has earned a perfect pass rate this year on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
