Nurse, author will share memoirs at Dordt

October 15, 2010

Lois Roelofs, PhD, RN, and Professor Emerita at Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights, IL, will discuss her newly released book at Dordt College on Monday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Science and Technology Center lecture hall S-101.

“Caring Lessons: A Nursing Professor’s Journey of Faith and Self” is Roelofs’ story of being a rebellious preacher’s kid, reluctant nurse, restless mom, perpetual student, and eventually, fun-loving teacher of mental health nursing.

In her talk, Roelofs will highlight the book’s themes of faith, family, and friendship. Her memoir will be available for purchase at the presentation, with a book signing to follow. Roelofs is giving proceeds from all book sales to nursing scholarships at Trinity Christian College.

During her career, Roelofs was a nurse in eight locations ranging from hospitals to steel mills, and she taught in four schools of nursing. She earned a diploma in nursing from Blodgett Memorial Hospital School of Nursing; a B.H.S. in Nursing Practice from Governors State University, and an M.S. in Psychiatric Nursing/Ph.D. in Nursing Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

This free event is hosted by the Dordt College Nursing Department and is free and open to the public.
