Schaap, Schelhaas to give reading at grand opening of Fruited Plain Cafe

Dordt College professor Jim Schaap and Dordt College professor emeritus David Schelhaas will give a reading at the Fruited Plain Café Friday, September 10, at 8:30 p.m.

Readings will include an array of older and newer poems by Schelhaas, as well as a newly published piece by Schaap. Schelhaas will be reading poems from the book he published a couple of years ago, The God of Material Things, among others.

Schaap is a professor of English at Dordt College. He is an award-winning author and whose writing often reflects self-discovery, faith, and grace. He recently had a short story published in the literary journal IMAGE and has two new books coming out soon.

Schelhaas is a professor emeritus of Dordt College. He continues to teach part-time at the college and work part-time at the Fruited Plain. He has written several books and has contributed to the textbook “The College Writer.” Both men are Dordt alumni.

The Fruited Plain is located at 172 N. Main in Sioux Center and is celebrating an official grand opening this weekend.
