Dordt College organist to be featured in Sioux City concert

May 8, 2010

Dr. Matthew Geerlings, a tutorial adjunct in the music department at Dordt College, will be the featured solo organist in a concert in Sioux City on Sunday, June 6.

The 3 p.m. concert will be at the Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 12th and Douglas Streets in Sioux City.

The Saint Thomas Episcopal Church Choir will also be featured in the program “Rejoice in the Lamb” by Benjamin Britten, under the direction of Dr. Linell Gray Moss. Vocal soloists include Victoria Conover, William Darwin, Randall Peters, and Diana Guhin Wooley.

The festival cantata sets sections of the poem Jubilate Agno by Christopher Smart (18th c.). The unique poetry was written while Smart was in an insane asylum, and is based on passages of scripture that praise all of God’s creation.

A freewill offering will be received to benefit the new Saint Thomas Community Garden, a ministry to provide community development and fresh food sources for the hungry in Siouxland.
