Commencement at Dordt College is May 7

Dordt College will celebrate commencement of the 2010 graduating class at a ceremony in the B.J. Haan Auditorium on Friday, May 7, at 10 a.m.

This year’s graduating class consists of 287 students, with 271 Baccalaureate degrees, 14 Associate of Arts degrees, and two Master of Education degrees awarded.

Degrees conferred include Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Social Work, and Master of Education degrees.

A reception for family and friends will follow in the recreation center, hosted by Dordt’s Alumni Association.

Speaker for the ceremony is Dr. Barb Hoekstra, professor of education at Dordt College, whose topic is “Border Crossings.” Dr. Hoekstra has been on Dordt’s faculty since 1997, teaching in the education department and coordinating student assessment. Dr. Hoekstra is a graduate of Trinity Christian College, Western Michigan University, and received her Doctor of Education degree in Adult and Higher Education from the University of South Dakota.

Seating in the B.J. Haan Auditorium is by ticket only and has been reserved for immediate family members of the graduates. Additional seating, with a live video feed, will be available in the Science and Technology Center (S101 and S108) and the Ribbens Academic Complex (CL 1144/1148). Audio will be broadcast live on KDCR (88.5 FM) and on the web.

A live video feed will also be broadcast.
