Clarinet recital April 23 at Dordt
April 17, 2010
Susan Le Mahieu, a senior from Frankfort, Ill., will present a clarinet recital in Dordt College’s B.J. Haan Auditorium on Friday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m.
Also performing will be Pamela De Haan and Laurel Slice on the piano; and Nathan Friend on the cello.
The program will open with music from the Romantic era and concludes with a sampling of modern music and jazz. Le Mahieu’s program demonstrates the full range, technique, and beauty of the clarinet with musical styles ranging from flowing melodic lines to spunky dance rhythms. Her repertoire includes “Sonata No. 1 in F minor” by Brahms; “Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano” by Farrenc; “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano” by Copland; and “Amazing Grace” arranged by Richard Stoltzman.
Le Mahieu is a choral and instrumental K-12 music education major at Dordt. She was named the winner of the Cherokee Young Artist Concerto Competition in 2008 and 2010, and was selected as soloist for a Cherokee Symphony Orchestra performance on April 18. She is a member of the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra, is a principal clarinetist in the Dordt College Concert Band, and has received a number of music scholarships while attending Dordt.
Dr. Karen De Mol has been Susan’s clarinet instructor during her time at Dordt. Susan is the daughter of Keith and Lauren Le Mahieu, Frankfort, Ill.
This student recital and a reception following the performance are free and open to the public.
