Haiti Benefit Banquet Tuesday, April 20, in Sioux Center
April 8, 2010
Helping a mission team never tasted so good!
If you’d like to help the people of Haiti while dining on slow-roasted prime rib, baked potatoes, candied baby carrots, fresh garden salad and fresh baked dinner rolls (prepared by the Cedar Rock Grill), get your tickets now for a Haiti Benefit Banquet.
The formal dinner and evening of entertainment will be held Tuesday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church, 321 Second St., Sioux Center. One hundred percent of the profit from the event will be used to fund a summer mission trip and to purchase medical supplies for a medical clinic in Haiti.
Tickets to attend are $25 and may be purchased until April 17 at the Dordt College bookstore and True Vine, Sioux Center; Netherlanders, Orange City; and Something Special in Rock Valley.
Dordt College students will provide musical entertainment.
Claude Gillot, a Dordt College student from Haiti, and his American sponsor, Jeaneen De Jager of Rock Valley, will share information and photos of Haiti after the meal. Gillot and De Jager are leading the mission team of Dordt students and others who will be traveling there this summer.
Claude was at Dordt when the earthquake hit on January 12, but made a trip back home immediately afterward to locate family members in Minotrie and Port Au Prince. He helped feed the homeless and assisted with interpreting at a medical clinic before returning to Dordt for spring semester classes.
Claude’s presence at Dordt College is the result of mission trip that occurred over a year ago. He was an interpreter at Mission of Hope for a Rock Valley couple, Herlan and Jeaneen De Jager, who came to Haiti as volunteers.
Claude told the De Jagers of his dream to attend college, and after much prayer they decided to sponsor Claude and fund his education at Dordt.
The presentation will conclude with an opportunity to make a freewill donation toward travel expenses and medical supplies for Haiti.
