Music Audition Day at Dordt College

January 9, 2010

High school students interested in music scholarships at Dordt College are invited to contact the college to set up an audition during the music department’s special high school visit day, Friday, Jan. 22.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet music department faculty and private lesson instructors, participate in ensemble rehearsals, have lunch with music students, and attend a special recital by Dordt College student soloists.

Participants are also welcome to attend a Friday night organ performance by the internationally acclaimed organist Dr. Christian Teeuwsen, who is an alumnus of Dordt College. The 7:30 p.m. performance will be presented in the B.J. Haan Auditorium, showcasing the college’s 57-rank, three-manual mechanical action Casavant pipe organ with works by Scheidemann, Böhm, Buxtehude, Muffat, Bach, Handel, Reger, Bedard, and Widor.

Teeuwsen will also present a workshop for area organists on Saturday morning, Jan. 22, from 9:30-11 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Both events are free and open to the public, sponsored by the Dordt College Music Department.

More than 300 U.S. and international students participate in the music program at Dordt, with opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. The college annually awards music scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to students participating in the program.
Students planning to attend are asked to call Dordt's toll free number 1-800-343-6738 (Option 1-Admissions) in advance. Guests will receive a complementary noon meal and overnight accommodations if needed.
