Dordt choral ensembles to perform Dec. 11

Choral Ensemble

Dordt College’s Concert Choir, Women’s Chorus, and Kantorei and will present a concert Friday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. The ensembles will present a variety of old and new music for Advent and Christmas.

Dr. Benjamin Kornelis will conduct the Concert Choir in its performance of J.S. Bach’s motet for double choir, “Komm, Jesu, Komm,” as well as Richard Marlow’s “Advent Responsory,” and works by Joan Szymko and Ola Gjeilo.

The Kantorei will perform works by Christopher Tye, William Byrd, and by Guatamalan Renaissance composer Tomás Pascual. A jazz-inflected arrangement of “Silent Night,” by student Titus Wamala will conclude their set.

The Women’s Chorus, directed by Pam De Haan, will perform four songs from the “Ceremony of Carols” by Benjamin Britten. A string quartet will accompany the chorus for “Laudamus Te” from Vivaldi’s “Gloria.”

Admission to this performance is free, with a freewill offering received to benefit music scholarships at Dordt College.
