‘Risky Business’ topic of John Kok December 7

Dr. John Kok will speak on the topic, “Transformation: Risky Business,” on Monday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. in Dordt College’s B.J. Haan Auditorium.

Dr. Kok is Dean of the Humanities at Dordt, a professor of philosophy, director of Off-Campus and International Programs, and the managing editor of Dordt College Press.

“Safe talk and conforming walks seldom rock the boat,” says Kok. In contrast, a prophetic mind-set encourages some rebellious risk-taking Dr. Kok will challenge his audience to seek out and assess their underlying “normal” social and cultural assumptions and reevaluate those assumptions in light of the kingdom of God.

Dr. Kok is a graduate of Trinity Christian College and completed his Ph.D. in philosophy at the Free University in Amsterdam. Since coming to Dordt College in 1983 Dr. Kok has taught a wide variety of philosophy courses and has published and edited books and articles on a variety of subjects.

The presentation is part of the First Monday Speaker Series at the college. The public is welcome to attend.
